In addition, our BEAM National pilot program now reaches around 1000 elementary-aged students in seven different states, working to create a new nationwide pathway modeled on our local work. We\u0026#39;ve seen our students\u0026#39; successes first-hand, and it\u0026#39;s backed by data: a quasi-experimental study found that students who attended our 7th grade summer program were 1.3X as likely to declare a STEM major as a matched comparison group.\u0026lt;strong\u0026gt;\u0026lt;/strong\u0026gt;\u0026lt;/p\u0026gt;\u0026lt;/div\u0026gt;\u0026lt;h2\u0026gt;\u0026lt;strong\u0026gt;DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION\u0026lt;/strong\u0026gt;\u0026lt;/h2\u0026gt;\n\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;The Manager, Summer Math Enrichment leads BEAM’s local LA Program team’s efforts to fully enroll and implement BEAM’s summer math enrichment programs for 6th and 7th grade Los Angeles students. BEAM\u0026#39;s summer math enrichment programs are unlike that of most other programs. Focusing on problem solving (and, in particular, students learning to solve novel problems that they haven\u0026#39;t been explicitly taught), mathematical reasoning, and how students synthesize ideas into big-picture perspectives unlocks a deeper appreciation for math and a long-term interest in STEM. BEAM Discovery, our day camp for rising 6th graders, serves 100-150 students per site and focuses on building math self-confidence and appreciation. BEAM Summer Away, our residential camp for rising 7th graders, serves 40-50 students per site and has a greater emphasis on rigor and perseverance. Both summer programs seek to build a strong community among staff and students with a common interest in STEM.\u0026amp;nbsp;\u0026amp;nbsp;\u0026lt;/p\u0026gt;\n\u0026lt;p\u0026gt;BEAM students often describe their summer with BEAM as a life-changing experience.
